PROFESSIONAL SPORTS ARE COMING TO HUNTERSVILLE!
HUNTERSVILLE, NC - March 15th and 16th athletes preparing to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will be competing at Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics, 11725 Verhoeff Dr., Huntersville NC. Carolina Diving Academy is introducing a first in the nation Pro-Am diving event in association with the 2024 Carolina BIG DIVE Invitational. In addition to the top divers on the East Coast who usually attend the annual event, the 2024 Pro-Am will feature divers from across the country preparing for the Olympic Trials later this spring.
“This has been a dream of mine since I was a diver,” said CDA program director Aaron Hintz. “The Carolina BIG DIVE has set the standard for unique team and diver awards since our start, but this is completely new. Professional diving is the missing component that will allow the US to regain our international prominence. We are launching the event this year in preparation for Paris, but the ultimate goal is for this annual event to better prepare and promote our divers for success at home in 2028 when the Olympics come to Los Angeles.”
TOTAL TEAM
$5,000
Each club may identify up to two divers per gender, per age group (Open, A, B, C, and D) who are competing in at least one JO or Open event to be members of their Total Team. Please note that for a diver to be designated as “Open” for their club’s Total Team they must be participating in an Open event. The identified divers will be tracked through each day of competition, and any team points they score for their club through event placements will constitute their contribution to the Total Team point tally. For example, a diver placing first on 1m (15 points), third on 3m (11 points), and eighth on platform (6 points) will contribute a total of 32 points to their club’s Total Team points.
At the conclusion of each day the leader will be identified and awarded a leader jacket.
Following the completion of all events, there will be a Final Round with a final opportunity to add to your Total Team tally. In the Final Round one boy and one girl from each age group (A, B, C, D, and Open) will each perform a single dive and will receive 25% of that dive’s total award added to their Team Total (For example a 105b scoring 48.60 points would result in 12.15 points being added to their club’s Total Team point tally). Within each gender, a club’s Final Round dives must perform at least one dive on 1m, 3m, and Tower, and may not repeat directions. The club with the highest Total after the completion of the Final Round will receive a $5000 prize.
Please see this supplementary document for the full rules and scoring for the Total Team award: Total Team Award Rules
